Amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the executive team of the Oscar Washington Educational Fund decided to adapt and created the 2020 Virtual Awards Show. We are proud to present to you in a digital venue the recipients of this years awards, as well as other gifts we were able to give this year.
Please take the time to watch the video below, and consider joining our cause. To those of you who were a part of making this happen virtually: THANK YOU! We could not have done it without you!
And to the 2020 recipients: we are proud of you and cannot wait to see your professional life unfold and proliferate.

In March of 2020, we made the difficult decision to suspend our in-person scholarship banquet. Although this is the signature event for our scholarship recipients, our chief concern was for the safety of the students, parents, sponsors, and guests. Our creative technical team crafted a video awards show that featured our 10 scholarship recipients and 5 Alma J. Washington Educator of the Year recipients!
As we approach this year’s event, the pandemic has persisted. Our desire to safely recognize and celebrate all of our recipients has persisted as well. This year we invite those with Internet access to join us for a premier virtual awards ceremony. The program will feature live interviews with our esteemed scholarship recipients, a video of our educator award winners, music from a special guest artist recently featured on American Idol, and a keynote address by attorney, activist, author, and CNN guest correspondent Bakari Sellers.
It certainly isn’t the way we envisioned highlighting these students and educators, but our end goal is met nonetheless – honoring those who are committed to academic excellence!
